Filing Period Completed for 2016 Election

The filing period for the 2016 election concluded in Illinois on Monday.

In Effingham County, there are no primary battles at the county office level.

In fact, only one person filed as a Democrat in a county contest. Lupita Thompson filed for State's Attorney.

On the Republican side, incumbent State's Attorney Bryan Kibler filed for a second term, meaning Kibler and Thompson will square off in November.

Also on the Republican side, incumbent John Niemerg filed for a second term as Circuit Clerk and Duane Guffey filed for a second term as County Coroner.

In County Board races, no Democrats filed for any of the five seats to be filled. As far as Republicans, incumbent Lloyd Foster filed in District A, incumbent Jeff Simpson filed in District F, incumbent Rob Arnold filed in District H, and incumbent Joe Thoele filed in District I. Also, John Perry filed as a Republican in District E, where Mike Depoister is the incumbent. Depoister has indicated he will seek re-election, but will run as an independent.

As far as Precinct Committeepersons, here are the Democrats who filed: Glen Donaldson in Liberty Township, Shirley McEvers in Summit 1, Jeremy Patnaude in Watson 1, Linda Repking in Watson 3, Daniel Niebrugge in Douglas 1, Karen Luchtefeld in Douglas 8, and Audrey Griffith in Bishop Township.

Here are the Republicans who filed: Alan Shumaker and Michael Runge in West Township so there will be a contest there in March, Jeff Simpson and Randy Dorr in Mound 2 so there will be a contest there in March, Steve Donaldson in Liberty Township, Ed Hoopingarner in Jackson Township, Jane Willenborg in Summit 1, John Perry in Summit 3, Shirley Moore in Summit 4, Rob Arnold in Watson 2, Billy Genaust in Watson 3, Wayne Russell in Douglas 3, Bryan Kibler in Douglas 4, Phil Toops in Douglas 6, Jim Niemann in Douglas 7, Gary West, Sr. in Douglas 8, Lisa Marie Sudkamp in Douglas 9, Dave Campbell in Douglas 13, John Niemerg in Bishop Township, and Thomas Vahling in St. Francis Township.

In Jasper County, Republican incumbent Jason Meyer filed for another term as County Coroner, incumbent Republican Jamie Blake and Democrat challenger Ami Smithenry filed for Circuit Clerk, incumbent Republican Chad Miller and Democrat challenger Dylan Hartigan filed for State's Attorney, Democrats Ronald Swick and Gary Michl filed for County Board District 1, Republicans Arthus Pickens Jr and Michael Steven Hall and Democrat Ronnie Diel filed for County Board District 2, and Republican Doug Weddell and Democrats Calvin Wilson and Jason Warfel filed for County Board District 3.

The precinct committeepeople will be elected in the March 2016 primary election; the other offices will be decided during the November 2016 general election.
