Even though the ribbon-cutting has already taken place and the facility has been in use for several weeks, the Effingham Public Library is still not quite finished.

Library Director Amanda McKay said there are still a couple of items being addressed, mainly related to doors and windows. McKay said the Board still has about $33,000 in retainage until those matters are addressed.

Meanwhile, the work of fundraising to pay off the library project continues. McKay told the Library Board this week that they still are about $400,000 short of their fundraising goal, but have several good leads still out there.

Board members voted to renew liability insurance coverage through the City of Effingham, with indications that premiums will be lower than last year. The Board also granted comp time to staff members equivalent to one work day for each employee, either fulltime or parttime.

It was again agreed to use Martin Luther King Jr. Day in January for a training session on AED and CPR use, as well as customer service.
