The filing period for the March 2016 primary election in Illinois and Effingham County begins on Monday, November 23 at 8am and will conclude on Monday, November 30 at 5pm.

Effingham County Clerk and Chief Election Authority Kerry Hirtzel said those to be nominated for the March primary include candidates for: US Senator, Illinois State Comptroller (a 2-yr unexpired term), US Representative in Congress, 55th District State Senator, all 118 Illinois State Representative seats, Effingham County Circuit Clerk, Effingham County Coroner, Effingham County State's Attorney, and Effingham County Board members from District A, E, F, H, and I.

In addition, precinct committeemen for all 37 precincts in Effingham County will be elected in the March primary so they can campaign for the candidates of their party until the November general election.

A reminder, too, that the Effingham County Clerk's Office will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, November 26 and on Friday, November 27.
