Five people were injured in a crash Sunday morning along Route 40 near Altamont.

Effingham County Sheriff's Department reports a vehicle driven by 18-year-old Catherine Leigh Pugsley of Altamont was northbound on 450th Street, stopped at the stop sign at Route 40, and then proceeded into the intersection. Pugsley's vehicle then collided with a vehicle traveling on Route 40 driven by 27-year-old Kerisa Wells of St. Elmo.

Pugsley was injured in the crash, as was Wells and three passengers in the Wells vehicle: four-year-old Kaelin Bates, eight-year-old Karter Wells, and 31-year-old Matthew Bates, all of St. Elmo. All five were taken to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham for treatment.

Pugsley was cited for failure to yield at an intersection, while Wells was cited for operating an uninsured vehicle.
