Greenup resident Devin Shupe has pleaded guilty to a count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse in a Jasper County case involving a female juvenile.

Prosecutors say the 20-year-old Shupe and the girl were located at a residence in Newton on September 1, after the girl was reported missing on August 21 and later reported as a runaway. Shupe was charged with helping the juvenile runaway and alleged inappropriate contact with the girl.

Shupe entered the guilty plea in court in Newton Thursday. Aggravated criminal sexual abuse is a Class 2 felony, punishable by up to three to seven years in prison.

In exchange for the guilty plea, prosecutors dismissed counts of child pornography, obstructing justice for destroying evidence, and violating a stalking no-contact order.

Shupe is due back in court on December 1 for a status hearing on his sentencing.
