As part of District 12's ongoing "response preparation", the Illinois State Police plan to utilize the old Helen Matthes Library for training in an active shooter situation.

The library's old location is at 100 East Market Avenue, one block west of Effingham's Post Office.

The training is to take place on three different afternoons during November. The dates have yet to be announced.

In a release Tuesday, officials say they want the public to be aware that during the exercises, the building will see a large police presence while officers participate in the refresher course, including responding to the scene and entering the building.
