Stewardson-Strasburg school board members Wednesday were updated on improvement projects in the district.

Superintendent Michelle Lindenmeyer said work is almost finished on the restrooms in the main gym lobby, and also shared information on possible improvements to the boys and girls restrooms in the elementary building. Members also heard that work is almost completed on the new HVAC system.

The Board heard about proposed state legislation that could freeze property tax increases, an option that has been handled at the local governmental level until now. Lindenmeyer also discussed next week's informational meeting at Neoga on that district's financial situation and possible options, including consolidation with neighboring districts. She said she'll be listening for other ways Stew-Stras and Neoga could share resources beyond classes and teachers they now share.

In personnel moves, the Stew-Stras board hired Barry Wittenberg as 5th and 6th grade basketball head coach and Jeremy Chaney as a volunteer assistant coach, and hired student Gabe Allen as a part-time custodian. There was no action on hiring an assistant high school girls basketball coach, and might not be until numbers of players increase.
