Effingham County State's Attorney Bryan Kibler said the investigation into the shooting death of an Effingham teenager Sunday indicates it was "not an intentional or malicious act."

Kibler said the evidence gathered in the investigation into the death of 16-year-old Kaylee Jacob "shows there was no intent to physically harm the deceased."

Jacob and two juvenile males were at a location in the 3200 block of South Banker about 6:15pm Sunday. Police have said a 16-year-old boy was handling a handgun when the gun fired, fatally injuring Jacob. Effingham County Coroner Duane Guffey announced today preliminary autopsy results indicate she died from a single gunshot wound. Final autopsy results will be available in six to eight weeks.

Two male juveniles were held in custody following the death. Asked whether charges are possible in the matter, Kibler said he can't discuss pending juvenile cases. Police have stated that the handgun involved in the incident had been reported stolen.
