The Cowden-Herrick Board of Education has approved the Bobcats as the new sports co-op mascot beginning next school year.

The Cowden-Herrick and Beecher City districts agreed earlier this year to combine their sports program after co-oping in certain sports in prior years. One contingency was the selection of a new mascot, giving the co-op teams their own identity rather than the current Eagles at Beecher City and Hornets at Cowden-Herrick.

Cowden-Herrick board members also approved their high school club sponsors' proposal for a change of eligibility policy, agreed to allow advertising signs on the track fence, and approved the tentative tax levy for the coming fiscal year.

The Board agreed to stop providing in-town bus pickup in Cowden as of Friday, October 30. A pedestrian walk bridge has been completed, meaning a safer walk to and from school for students. Also, Dennis Nohren was approved as volunteer boys junior high basketball assistant and Courtney Myers was approved as volunteer girls high school basketball coach. Also, Nicole Carter was approved to move from custodian pay to custodian/maintenance pay. There was also a closed session to discuss compensatory time and contract negotiations.
