The new Effingham Public Library will celebrate a Grand Reopening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Friday, October 16 with extended hours and activities for all the family.

The event will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony scheduled for 6 p.m. The Library will be serving s’mores in its new Children’s Programming Room to compliment the Downtown Chili Fest which also takes place that night. There will be fun activities for all the family offered in different areas of the library.

The Effingham Public Library at 200 North Third Street, Effingham, opened its doors in mid-September following a nine-month remodeling of the former Fifth Third Bank building. Previously called the Helen Matthes Library, the library has now grown from 13,000 sq. ft. to 27,000 sq. ft. The move to the new building allows the library to offer its community a larger children’s area with its own dedicated programming room, a computer lab for computer classes, study rooms, a 150-seat auditorium, and more public computers.

The Library’s normal opening hours are Monday to Thursday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Library is closed on Sundays. To contact the library with questions, call (217) 342-2464 or email info@effinghamlibrary.org.
