More than 1,200 area junior and senior high school students attended the annual Lake Land College Illinois Regional College Fair and Career Day, held earlier this month.

Career Day gives high school students a chance to explore career options by attending various break-out sessions with Lake Land College instructors and volunteers who come to the college to share knowledge about their profession with the students. Additionally, the Illinois Regional College Fair was held in the Field House, which gave students the opportunity to talk with university representatives.

According to Pam Hartke, admissions representative at Lake Land, spending a day on the college’s campus provides students with vital information that will help them in the decision-making process about their college and career choices.

“The students are always very excited to come to campus and meet with our faculty, staff and the other representatives volunteering their time,” said Hartke. “Our faculty has many connections within their disciplines and can often offer additional information and contacts so students can gain the necessary information to help guide them on a career path.”

Hartke said the event, which is now more than 30 years old, is designed to educate students in a fun way.

"It’s a fun-filled day full of opportunities for students interested in a variety of options. Students can find out what they want to know about educational and career options," she said.
