Effingham Park Board commissioners are hoping to get a definitive date soon on when the Richard E. Workman Sports and Wellness Complex will open.

Park District Director Jeff Althoff said the target date is still January 1, but he's looking for a firm date from general contractor Poettker Construction.

In the meantime, park district trustees discussed a membership kickoff drive, which could begin in November. Althoff said they also discussed a way to bring the public in to get an early look at the facility.

The Park Board also approved an ordinance annexing several parcels of property into the park district. The parcels included J&R Collision Center on South Banker, a small portion of B&B Mobile Homes' property on North Route 45, and several parcels along Outer Belt West. Typically, the park district boundaries mirror the city limits.
