Local volunteers are organizing a "Stand Against Heroin" rally for this Saturday.

The event will begin at 1pm on the lawn of the historic Effingham County Courthouse. Effingham Mayor Jeff Bloemker will give a welcoming address. A series of speakers are scheduled, including those who treat heroin addiction and a recovering addict. Local attorney Scott Ealy, who has been working to heighten awareness of heroin use and abuse, will serve as Master of Ceremonies.

Those who attend are encouraged to take along a lawn chair.
