Indications are that the Richard E. Workman Sports and Wellness Complex will be opening around the first of the year.

Effingham Park District Director Jeff Althoff told our Greg Sapp and Wayne Moran during a tour of the facility in recent days that all should be completed except for the competitive lap pool and the recreational pool. Althoff hopes those will be open a month or so later.

As to the layout of the facility, the main floor on the east end will feature the sports courts area that can be used either for two basketball courts or three volleyball courts. The main floor on the west end will feature the two pools. Also on the main floor will be the offices to be leased by HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital. The hospital plans to use the facilities to expand their rehabilitative services area. The offices will be in close proximity to the recreational pool, which the hospital will utilize a couple of hours each day.

The second floor will feature a walking and running track as well as the fitness center being acquired from Get Fit Family Fitness and then expanded. There will also be a seating area for spectators to watch the swimming meets.
