The Effingham Unit 40 Board of Education Monday hired FTS Sound of Effingham to enhance the audio system in the high school cafetorium.

FTS will be paid $18,774 for a base sound system in what is known as the Hearts Rock Cafe. Superintendent Mark Doan said the package will include speakers, amps and processors. The system is designed to make the facility better-suited to handle events like the AHA Film Festival, band concerts, and musicals and other plays. Doan said the goal is to have the system ready for October events.

The Board also, following a closed session, voted to expel a student from regular bus transportation for the balance of the school year.
