Start Circulating Those Petitions on Tuesday

The first day for circulation of candidate petitions for the March 15, 2016 primary election in Illinois is Tuesday, September 1, 2015.

Candidates can pick up petition forms and instructions at the Effingham County Clerk's office between the hours of 8am and 4pm Monday through Friday beginning September 1. The filing period will be November 23 through November 30 in the County Clerk's office. The County Clerk's office will be closed on Thursday, November 26 and Friday, November 27 for the Thanksgiving holiday and will be open until 5pm on Monday, November 30.

Candidates for the following offices are required to file with the County Clerk:

--the countywide offices of Circuit Clerk, Coroner, and State's Attorney

--County Board member from Districts A, E, F, H and I

--Precinct Committeemen for the 37 precincts in Effingham County

The Effingham County Clerk's office is located at 101 North 4th Street, Suite #201, in Effingham and may be contacted at 217-342-6535 or countyclerk@co.effingham.il.us   

A note that there are many other races for office in 2016, including President of the United States, but filing for those other offices takes place at the Illinois State Board of Elections in Springfield.
