Name Released of Girl Found Dead Tuesday Morning

Effingham County Coroner Duane Guffey has released the name of the girl found dead Tuesday morning in Effingham.

17-year-old Shelby M. Wheatley of Effingham was pronounced dead at 8:13am Tuesday in an upstairs apartment at 715 North 3rd Street. 

An autopsy was performed Tuesday afternoon; final autopsy results will be released when a final report on the death is completed in approximately four to six weeks. A release from the coroner's office indicated there were no obvious signs of trauma or injury.

An investigation continues by Guffey's office, Effingham City Police Department and Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services.
