The sentencing hearing for Effingham physician Naeem Kohli has been postponed to September.

Kohli was found guilty in January of seven counts of illegal dispensation of controlled substance. The guilty verdicts came at the end of a 17-day trial. Each count is punishable by up to 20 years in prison.

The sentencing hearing is now scheduled for 10am on September 14 in US District Court in Benton. The continuance was requested by the defense, as the defense attorney was not available today.

Kohli was found guilty of writing prescriptions out of Kohli Neurology and Sleep Center in Effingham outside the usual course of medical practice and, prosecutors say, not for a legitimate medical purpose.
