State Crop Report for Week Ending August 16

Baling hay was the main activity last week as farmers took advantage of the warm weather. Statewide, precipitation averaged 0.52 inches, 0.40 inches below normal. The average temperature was 74.9 degrees, 1.3 degrees above normal. There were 6.4 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending August 16.

Topsoil moisture supply was rated at 1% very short, 19% short, 71% adequate, and 9% surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated at 1% very short, 12% short, 76% adequate, and 11% surplus.

Corn at the dough stage was at 84%, an increase of 17 percentage points over last week. Corn dented reached 38%, six percentage points ahead of last year, but three percentage points behind the five-year average. Corn condition was rated at 5% very poor, 10% poor, 29% fair, 44% good, and 12% excellent.

Soybeans blooming was at 94%, compared to both last year and the five-year average of 96%. Soybeans setting pods was at 81%, an increase of 11 percentage points over last week. Soybean condition was rated 6% very poor, 13% poor, 31% fair, 40% good, and 10% excellent.

Pasture and range condition was rated 1% very poor, 5% poor, 28% fair, 52% good, and 14% excellent.
