The Altamont City Council has begun the process of filling a vacancy on the Council created by the death of Commissioner Bill Jones.

The 78-year-old Jones died on August 1.

Altamont City Clerk Sarah Stephen said those interested in serving should submit an autobiography and a statement of why they would like to serve on the Council. Applications are due by 5pm on August 24.

Those who apply need to be City of Altamont residents, and must have lived in the City for at least one year.

Whoever is selected by the Council to fill the vacancy will serve until April 30, 2019.

Also at this week's meeting, the Altamont Council finalized an agreement with Bean Development, the owners of a five-unit mobile home park, to clean up the park. The park has not been in operation, and City officials have judged the location a nuisance. The agreement states that Bean Development will take steps to abate the nuisance, and that the work must be completed by October 1.

The Council also approved two agreements with the City's engineering firm, BHMG. One agreement puts the firm on a monthly $1,250 retainer, rather than being paid per assignment. The other agreement is on development of a spill prevention plan for the Electrical Department for $5,500. A third proposed agreement on preparation of a cost of service and rate study for the electrical department was rejected due to the $16,450 price tag.
