City Hall in Effingham is undergoing some relocation of offices.

City Administrator Jim Arndt has been reviewing the dynamics of City operations for some time. Arndt said in a press release that input from staff has helped him make the changes.

The release also indicated that Mayor Jeff Bloemker, the City Council, Arndt and staff members have been working on ways to better improve customer service, reposition the locations of departmental offices, and redirect the scope of certain positions to make for more efficient operation of the City.

The most significant change for those who visit City Hall may be plans for an Information Center and receptionist to assist and direct visitors upon entering the building.

Here are the other changes:

--the City Clerk's Office and Utility Billing will be located in the former Water Department located at the east end of the main floor

--the Building Official and Electrical Inspector's Office will relocate to the west end of the main floor, the former City Clerk's office

--Economic Development will move to the former Building Official's office upstairs on the east end

--Insurance Safety Department will relocate to the administration offices upstairs on the west end

--The City Treasurer's Office will expand to include the Accounting Administrator/City Treasurer and Accounting Assistant

The staff began the process of relocating on Tuesday. Arndt asks for your patience during the transition. Phone numbers for the various offices will remain the same.
