Recap of City Council Meeting

Due to the press of business including activities at the Effingham County Fair, we hadn't posted the results of the August 4 Effingham City Council meeting.

Here's a recap:

--The Council agreed to submit a state grant request for the Beck's Hybrids project

--an easement between Effingham Medical Center and Lakeland Nursing and Rehabilitation Center was vacated

--an ID Networks criminal livescan booking station was purchased for $27,850 for the city police department

--a replat of two lots on Cherry Street between Grove Avenue and the CSX Railroad was approved

--Kinney Contractors was awarded the pavement patching program for this year for $297,726.10

--Kieffer Brothers Construction was awarded the bid to replace a sewer lift station along the Airport Road for $217,900

--a release of certain closed session minutes of previous Council meetings was approved, and audio recordings of certain closed session were approved for destruction

--a special presentation was made to city police officers McFarland, Douthit, Warner, Long and Webb as well as K9 Narco, sheriff's deputies Kinkelaar and Murray, County Coroner Duane Guffey, and Teutopolis police officer Loy for their joint efforts to apprehend a man wanted on a warrant last month

--the parking lot north of HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital was rezoned from single-family residence district to multiple dwelling distrct

--land owned by Vergie Byers at 709 South Cherry was rezoned from single-family residence district to multiple dwelling district

--a special use permit was granted for development of mini-warehouses at 3007 Four Seasons Drive with the provision that a drainage study be conducted to make sure more storm water doesn't end up on neighboring property

--property at 108 S. Oak was rezoned from general commercial to single-family residence district so St. John's Lutheran Church's Eagle's Nest Pre-School can be located there

--a redevelopment agreement was discussed with Pinnacle Food Group as to how to calculate employee work hours

--there was discussion about an app that would allow city residents to submit messages to the City about matters of concern

--there was discussion about reconstructing the portion of South 3rd Street at the CSX Railroad crossing to lower the crossing and straighten the street
