Attorney Charles Bradley Vaughn has been appointed Richland County State's Attorney. Vaughn succeeds David Hyde, who resigned.

Hyde's resignation letter was received on July 30, although he unofficially told the Richland County Board at their regular monthly meeting July 9 that he was planning to leave office.

Hyde said he was ready to retire. He said that instead of holding the job for another 16 months until a new person takes office after the November 2016 election, "I feel strongly it's time to leave now."

Hyde was assistant state's attorney from 1995-2004. He was elected state's attorney in 2004 and re-elected in 2008 and 2012.
