State Crop Report for Week Ending July 26

Below average rainfall throughout most of the state allowed Illinois farmers to continue harvesting small grains and cutting hay.

Statewide, precipitation averaged 0.57 inches, .40 inches below normal. The average temperature was 74.8 degrees, 1.2 degrees below normal. There were 5.2 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending July 26.

Topsoil moisture supply was rated at 3% short, 67% adequate, and 31% surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated at 2% short, 67% adequate, and 31% surplus.

Corn silking increased to 89%, slightly behind last year at this time. Corn dough was at 32%, an increase of 15% over last week. Corn condition was rated 5% very poor, 10% poor, 28% fair, 45% good, and 12% excellent.

Soybeans blooming was at 72%, compared to 81% last year and the five-year average of 77%. Soybeans setting pods was at 31%, 10% behind last year at this time. Soybean condition was rated 6% very poor, 13% poor, 32% fair, 41% good, and 8% excellent.

The planting of sorghum and the harvesting of winter wheat neared completion at 95%. 

Pasture and range condition was rated 1% very poor, 3% poor, 19% fair, 58% good, and 19% excellent.
