We told you earlier this week that the Effingham County Board has decided where two monuments will be located on the lawn of the Old Courthouse downtown.

Meanwhile, another marker has been put in place on the same lawn.

The National Road Association of Illinois had been given permission several months ago to place a kiosk on the Courthouse lawn to promote the Association and the notable sites in the communities along the roadway. The kiosk was installed this week, just west of the location planned for the monuments.

The National Road, basically US Route 40 through this area, was approved for construction when Thomas Jefferson served as president.
