Wet Conditions Still Hamper Farm Activity

Wet conditions continued to limit fieldwork throughout the state last week.

Statewide, precipitation averaged 0.97 inches, 0.18 inches above normal. The average temperature was 77.9 degrees, 1.2 degrees above normal. There were 3.3 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending July 19.

Topsoil moisture supply was rated at 1% short, 55% adequate, and 44% surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated at 1% short, 57% adequate, and 42% surplus.

Corn silking increased to 75%, an increase of 20 percentage points from last week. Corn dough was at 17%, compared to 18% last year and the five-year average of 16%. Corn condition was rated 5% very poor, 11% poor, 29% fair, 43% good, and 12% excellent.

Soybeans emerged reached 96%, compared to 100% for both last year and the five-year average. Soybeans blooming was at 56%, compared to 66% last year and the five-year average of 61%. Soybeans setting pods was at 16%, 6% behind last year at this time. Soybean condition was rated 7% very poor, 13% poor, 33% fair, 39% good, and 8% excellent.

Winter wheat harvest increased to 91% complete, up from 83% last week.

Pasture and range condition was rated 1% very poor, 3% poor, 17% fair, 60% good, and 19% excellent.
