Helen Matthes Library to Close at Month's End; Plans for Changeover to Effingham Public Library

Helen Matthes Library will close on Friday, July 31 at 6 p.m. and reopen as Effingham Public Library in its temporary location, Effingham City Hall, 201 E. Jefferson, on Monday, August 3 at 9 a.m. While in the temporary location, the library will be open from 9 to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday with no Saturday hours.

To say goodbye to the old library, a special story time and patron appreciation is planned for Friday, July 31. Fun for children zero to five, story time will begin at 10 a.m. Everyone is welcome to visit the library between 10:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. to enjoy a customer appreciation and a final visit to the 100 E. Market Avenue location.

The temporary library location at Effingham City Hall will offer a small selection of popular children and adult fiction and nonfiction books, DVDs, blu-rays and audiobooks for check out. Other library services will be limited, though a small number of public computers will be available as well as black and white printing. No public faxing or copying will be available.

Library card holders are encouraged to explore the variety of online digital magazines, books and audiobooks available at effinghamlibrary.org. These services will not be affected while the library is in its temporary location.
