Local agencies are investigating the death of an infant over the weekend.

A two-month-old was taken to the Emergency Department at HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham from Jasper County. The child was pronounced dead at 1:08am Saturday. The Effingham County Coroner's Office was contacted. Preliminary information is that no foul play is suspected.

The death is being investigated by the Coroner's Office along with the Southern Illinois Child Death Task Force, Newton Police Department, and Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services.

The coroner's office shared that the infant was found unresponsive at a motel in Newton where the family was staying. 911 was called and the infant was transferred by Jasper County EMS to St. Anthony's.

An autopsy was performed Sunday in Bloomington. Results will be available pending release of the final autopsy report. Authorities did not release the names of those involved as family was still being notified. Additional information including the name of the infant will be released on Tuesday.
