With hope the unusual rainy season this summer is behind us, Cumberland school officials told their school board this week that a roofing project and the parking lot project have resumed and progressing well.

Cumberland board president Jack Ingram reported that a committee is being formed called the Continuous Improvement Committee. The committee will be comprised of board members, administration, staff, members of the student body, and community members. The committee's focus will be to "take the pulse" of the district and discuss ways they can continue to make the schools better. Members will be appointed at the August meeting.

The Board heard about elementary Math and Reading curriculum options, and discussed eliminating a bus route rather than having to replace an ailing bus.

Registration for Cumberland students is set for August 4, with the first day of pupil attendance on August 21.

In personnel moves, the Cumberland board hired Justin Roedl as high school athletic director, hired Mitchell Martin as high school boys assistant basketball coach, accepted Steve Sherwood's resignation as bus driver and agreed to seek a replacement, accepted the resignation of Chasity Dunaway as middle school girls basketball head coach, agreed to seek a grade school fulltime aide, and approved 1.5% salary increases for Mike Oakley, Wendell Kemper, Gail Bierman, Erin St. John, Steve Wheeler, Kevin Maynard and Stacy Keyser.
