State Crop Report for Week Ending July 12

Weather continued to be a challenge for Illinois producers last week with some areas of the state reporting crops under stress from cool, wet conditions.

Statewide, precipitation averaged 2.7 inches, 1.92 inches above normal. Average temperature was 70.6 degrees, 5.6 degrees below normal. There were 1.8 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending July 12.

Topsoil moisture supply was rated at 1% short, 45% adequate, and 54% surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was 1% short, 51% adequate, and 48% surplus.

Corn silking increased to 55%, an increase of 29% from last week. Corn dough was at 2%, 10% behind last year at this time. Corn condition was rated 5% very poor, 11% poor, 28% fair, 45% good, and 11% excellent. 

Soybeans planted reached 96%. Soybeans emerged reached 94%, compared to 100% for both last year and the five-year average. Soybeans blooming was at 33%, compared to 47% last year and the five-year average of 40%. Soybeans setting pods were at 2%, 8% behind last year at this time. Soybean condition was rated 7% very poor, 13% poor, 32% fair, 40% good, and 8% excellent.

Winter wheat harvest increased to 83% complete, compared to 69% last week.

Oats harvested reached 8%. 

Pasture and range condition was rated 1% very poor, 3% poor, 17% fair, 60% good, and 19% excellent.
