Beecher City Man Arrested on Drug Counts in Effingham

A Beecher City man was arrested in Effingham Monday night on drug charges.

Effingham Police Chief Mike Schutzbach said 21-year-old Cody L. Laue was arrested about 10pm in the 600 block of West Rickelman. Schutzbach said city officers attempted to make a traffic stop, but said Laue didn't stop. A short pursuit ensued and the vehicle driven by Laue was stopped. Schutzbach said the occupants of the vehicle were throwing items out of the car during the pursuit.

Laue was arrested on counts of aggravated participation in methamphetamine manufacturing and disposal of methamphetamine manufacturing waste. He was also arrested on a count of aggravated fleeing or eluding a police officer as well as no valid's drivers license and speeding.

A passenger in the vehicle, 27-year-old Jennifer L. Cathey of Charleston, was arrested on a count of use of property to violate the Methamphetamine Control Act.
