A man is in custody after a pursuit that ended in his apprehension in Oakridge Cemetery.

Effingham Police Chief Mike Schutzbach said 60-year-old Charles T. Haney of Effingham has been sought by authorities for the past couple of weeks. Haney was being sought on warrants from the Department of Corrections in Pennsylvania for parole violations. Schutzbach added that information obtained by police was that Haney would be armed and unfriendly with police.

A city police officer spotted a vehicle containing a person that matched Haney's description at 5:32pm Wednesday. What the chief termed "a short pursuit" followed leading up on the farm road east off the end of Temple Avenue where the suspect vehicle became stuck. Officers including a K-9 unit apprehended Haney up the hill from the road in the east part of Oakridge Cemetery shortly before 6pm. No shots were fired.

In addition to the warrants, Haney was taken into custody on charges of aggravated fleeing and eluding police, obstructing justice, reckless driving, DUI, and two counts of disobeying a stop sign.

The Effingham County Sheriff's Department, Teutopolis Police and the Effingham County Coroner's Office assisted city police in the investigation.
