Retired circuit judge Sherri Tungate will be the new Clay County State's Attorney.

Tungate was appointed to the post Thursday night by the Clay County Board. She will succeed Marilyn Brant, who is retiring from the post June 30.

Tungate will serve out Brant's term, which ends November 30, 2016.

The former judge retired after some 20 years on the bench, but has been involved in private practice.
