The Cowden-Herrick and Beecher City school boards appear to be getting closer to resolving the issue of co-oping in all sports for the coming school year, but it's still not a sure thing.

The Cowden-Herrick board last week voted to go ahead with co-oping in all sports, not just some as is now the case. The motion included a stipulation that a new mascot, name and colors had to be chosen for the coming school year for the full co-op to occur, otherwise the partial co-op would continue.

The Beecher City board meanwhile voted to go ahead with the full co-op, but to wait on the mascot until the 2016-17 school year.

That means the Cowden-Herrick board will hold a special meeting this Friday night to decide whether to concur with the Beecher City vote, or whether to continue with the partial co-op.

In other business, the Cowden-Herrick board voted to extend the contract of grade school principal Tina Oldham by two years to track with the two-year agreement given new high school principal Seth Schuler, and extended Superintendent Darrell Gordon's contract by two years.

The Board also hired Andy Nohren as high school cross country coach, and hired Consuello Lorton as junior high cross country coach.
