Three employees of Dale's Diesel Service received surprise recognition from the Effingham County Sheriff's Department over the weekend.

The co-workers were recognized for their efforts to assist a co-worker at Dale's when he suffered a heart attack.

Jeff Rauch was at Dale's Diesel, located along Route 40 between Effingham and Teutopolis, on December 23 when he started having chest pains. Jeff phoned 911 himself and started talking with the 911 telecommunicator. After a very short time, he collapsed and stopped breathing.

Three employees of Dale's Diesel immediately stepped in and performed CPR on Jeff until EMS crews arrived. Jeff was shocked three times due to him flatlining, once at Dale's Diesel, once at HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital, and once in flight to the final destination hospital.

Happily today, Jeff Rauch is back to his normal self and has very little, if any, complications because of his massive heart attack.

A benefit was held Saturday to help Jeff Rauch defray his medical expenses. During the benefit, Effingham County Chief Deputy Sheriff Paul Kuhns made a surprise appearance to present the Dale's Diesel employees with an award for their helping efforts.
