The trial of Mickey Johnson has been delayed until August.

The 32-year-old Johnson is charged with predatory criminal sexual assault of a child. The Effingham man is accused of a sex act involving a girl under age 13 in September 2011. The charge is a Class X felony, punishable by six to 30 years in prison if he is convicted.

Effingham County Public Defender Scott Schmidt said Friday afternoon that the defense and prosecution are still negotiating in the case, and said he received some discovery in the case just that day, so requested the delay.

Judge Kimberly Koester said Johnson's trial for August 3, with a pre-trial hearing on July 21.

Johnson remains in Effingham County Jail under $250,000 bond.
