Today is Rotary International Group Study Exchange Day in Effingham.

Effingham Mayor Jeff Bloemker proclaimed the day in honor of the visit by a GSE team from Denmark to the city. The group has toured the Rotary district in east central Illinois for the past three weeks and will head home on Friday.

Group Study Exchanges have been sponsored for many years to promote peace and understanding between peoples and nations. Many US teams, including several people from the Effingham area, have traveled to other nations through the program.

The group met at City Hall with the mayor for the presentation of the proclamation and to discuss how Danish government and the economy operate when compared to the US and Effingham, in particular. Team members stay with host families during their visits and take trips to local business and industry while also taking time for social events to experience much of the local culture.
