City Recognizes Employment Milestone, Employee of Year

The Effingham City Council honored two City employees at this week's meeting.

The Council honored Fire Department Second Lieutenant Larry Thies for 40 years' service to the city fire department. Thies began work for the fire department in 1975 under the tenure of Chief Logan Van Dyke. Larry also stays busy working for Air Evac, assisting with airlifting those in need of emergency medical treatment.

Council members also honored City Police Investigator John Maguire as Employee of the Quarter, and then as Employee of the Year. 

Maguire was recognized for his work in the police department's IT program and in cyber crimes. Jayne Miller of the City Public Works Department was also nominated for the Employee of the Quarter honor, while Fire Chaplain Paul Bauer was also a nominee for the Employee of the Year honor.
