Five people were injured Sunday night in a collision on US 40 in Effingham County.

The crash occurred just after 9pm, a quarter-mile east of Crystal Street. Effingham County Sheriff's Department reports a pickup truck driven by 47-year-old Brian A. Koester of Teutopolis was slowed to make a right turn, and was rear-ended by a pickup truck driven by 23-year-old Clinton Nunamaker of Effingham.

Both drivers were injured, as were three passengers in the Koester vehicle; 15-year-old Lane Koester, 15-year-old Clint Koester and 11-year-old Evan Koester, all of Teutopolis. All four of the Koesters were taken to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham for treatment, while Nunamaker declined treatment.

Deputies cited Nunamaker for failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash.
