UPDATE: Coal City, IL Man Arrested in Connection with Abduction that Ended in Effingham

The suspect in an abduction that began in Cape Girardeau, MO and ended in Effingham, has been arrested in Yorkville, IL, just west of Chicago.

The Cape Girardeau Police Department reports that 43-year old Jeffery Lazier of Coal City, IL (located south and west of Joliet), was taken into custody in Yorkville by the Illinois State Police and the FBI without incident.

Lazier is being held on a warrant out of Cape Girardeau County for 1st degree robbery, and faces additional charges of felony kidnapping, armed criminal action, felony sodomy and felony sexual abuse. His bond was set at $250,000 and is pending extradition back to Missouri.

The victim told police the incident began at a park in Cape Girardeau on Tuesday, May 12, when she said she was forced into a red extended cab truck. She told authorities she was driven to various locations and sexually assaulted before managing to escape her captor while they were stopped in Effingham.

Friday morning, the Missouri State Highway Patrol Crime Lab advised police that fingerprints lifted from the victim's car we those of Lazier, who is a registered sex offender. Investigators also confirmed that Lazier owned a red 2006 Ford F-250 truck.

Authorities from the Cape Girardeau Police Department, Missouri Highway Patrol, Illinois State Police, Effingham Police Department, Centralia Police Department, Anna Police Department and the FBI all worked various leads on the case over the past three days.
