Members of the Effingham Noon Rotary Club learned about a backpack mission to Honduras at their meeting May 13.

Tony Munoz of Iglesia Batista Latina de Effingham spoke about the effort, which was an outgrowth of ministry work undertaken by Munoz in his native country and a mission trip there with a group from New Hope Church in Effingham. He became acquainted with an organization in Honduras that provides backpacks to students in Honduras.

That led to an effort to collect backpacks in this area to take to Honduras. During this second year of the effort, almost 350 backpacks were taken to San Pedro Sula, Honduras' second largest city and the industrial capital of the nation. Munoz said others are welcome to get involved in the effort and to make the journey to Honduras.

Noon Rotarian Greg Sapp served as weekly program chairman.
