Two Dead in Shootings in Jasper County

Two people are dead in a pair of shootings overnight in Jasper County.

Authorities say 56-year-old Donald Geier of Newton was prounced dead by Jasper County Coroner Jason Meyer. The Jasper County Sheriff's Office reports Geier died as a result of a gunshot wound to the chest. The shooting occurred in Ste. Marie around 10pm.

The suspect in Geier's shooting, 47-year-old Patrick Elie of West Liberty, was located within his rural West Liberty home. Authorities say Elie was pronounced dead due to an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Authorities say there are no other suspects regarding the shootings.

Illinois State Police, the Jasper County Sheriff's Department and the Jasper County Coroner's Office are continung their investigation.
