Two people were airlifted for treatment of injuries after a Tuesday crash in Fayette County.

State police say the crash occurred just before 5pm on US 40. Police report that a vehicle driven by a 17-year-old from Vandalia slowed to turn off the highway and was rear-ended by a pickup truck driven by 41-year-old Sherry Sefton of Brownstown.

Both Sefton and the 17-year-old, whose name was not released, were injured and were airlifted from the scene for treatment at HSHS St. John's Hospital in Springfield.

Police cited Sefton for failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash and no insurance.
