A Dieterich woman was killed in a single-car crash early Tuesday morning.

Illinois State Police report 26-year-old Brittany Bohnhoff was fatally injured in the crash.

The crash occurred at 3:15am along the Dieterich/Clay City Blacktop, about two miles south of Dieterich. Police say Bohnhoff's car ran off onto the east shoulder of the blacktop and then came across the roadway. The car ran off the west side of the roadway and down an embankment, overturning several times before coming to rest on its top.

Brittany Bohnhoff was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Her two young passengers, a six-year-old boy and a five-year-old boy, both of Dieterich, were injured and were taken to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham for treatment. The boys' names were not released.

Illinois State Police and their accident reconstruction office are investigating the crash along with the Effingham County Coroner's Office.

The blacktop was closed from the time of the crash until shortly before 8am.

Funeral arragements for Bohnoff are located here.
