Mark Giertz is leaving the Stewardson-Strasburg School District.

Giertz, a Stew-Stras graduate, is leaving to become principal at Milton Pope School in Marseilles, a Grades K-8 facility. He'll begin work there July 1.

Stew-Stras Superintendent Michelle Lindenmeyer said Giertz's wife and family are from the Marseilles area and said it's where Giertz was working before he returned to Stew-Stras.

In the meantime, the Stew-Stras school board has authorized Lindenmeyer to post the Grades K-12 principal's post now held by Giertz. The Board also authorized Lindenmeyer to post aide positions once the District learns what will be the level of funding for the positions from the State, and also approved posting a half-time Special Education position once funding is determined.

The Stew-Stras board also reorganized in the wake of the April election. Chad Smith was elected board president, Bob Schlechte was chosen vice-president, and Allison Vonderheide was elected board secretary.

The Board also voted to move their meeting night and time. As of June, the Stew-Stras Board will meet on the third Wednesday of the month at 6:30pm.
