Family members have confirmed that a former Clay County resident is one of those killed when a series of storms capsized sailboats in a regatta near Mobile Bay in Alabama Saturday.

71-year-old Robert Dulaney was a Clay County native who was living in Jackson, Mississippi. Dulaney was a crew member aboard one of the boats participating in a regatta when the storms hit. The boat in which he was riding actually went vertical after being hit by a large wave. All four crewmembers were thrown from the boat and Dulaney and another member of the crew were the two people killed.

Nearly 40 people were rescued. There were 10 craft in distress, three from the regatta; the rest were other mariners.

A memorial service for Dulaney will be held in Mississippi. He'll be buried alongside his parents in the Mt. Zion Cemetery, located between Flora and Clay City.
