Effingham firefighters were called out at 12:50am Monday on a semi truck tractor fire.

Effingham Fire Chief Joe Holomy said the semi trailer was full of rolled paper. The fire damaged the trailer so that it collapsed. A backhoe was taken to the scene to offload the rolls of paper from the remains of the trailer. As that happened, each roll of paper was hosed down before it was placed in dumpsters taken to the scene.

The incident occurred on I-70 westbound about four miles west of Effingham. The outside lane of the interstate in the area of the fire was finally re-opened about 7:30am.
