Windsor resident Thomas Messina has been sentenced to 45 years in prison for first degree murder.

The 20-year-old Messina pleaded guilty to murder in January for his role in the death of Gregory Scott Collins in Casey in January 2014. Firefighters found Collins' body while fighting a fire at his house in Casey.

Earlier, Messina had been examined as to fitness to stand trial or whether pleas of guilty, but mentally ill or not guilty by reason of insanity would be more appropriate charges, but he was found fit.

While Messina will get credit for more than a year he's spent in jail awaiting disposition of his jail, there is no good time in this case, meaning he'll serve the full sentence.

Other counts filed in the case, including aggravated arson knowing people are present in the building involved and aggravated cruelty to animals were dismissed as part of concluding the case.
