An investigation into the death of a resident of the Murray Developmental Center has been referred to Illinois State Police and two staff members have been placed on administrative leave.

The Acting Secretary of the Department of Human Services Gregory Bassi says the department was saddened to learn that a resident of the center passed away on March 30th.  During the course of the initial review, Bassi says they grew concerned by inconsistent statements given by staff members.

The case was referred to the Illinois Department of Human Services Office of the Inspector General to carry out a full investigation.  Bassi says based upon the Inspector General's initial review, the matter has been referred to the Illinois State Police.

Bassi reports pending the outcome of the investigation, two staff members are on administrative leave.
