A woman was entrapped in her vehicle for a time after she was forced off the roadway by a semi just after noon Thursday.

The crash happened on I-57/70 near the north tri-level on the north side of Effingham. State police report a rig driven by 52-year-old Nelson Holmes of Muskogee, Oklahoma changed lanes and struck a car traveling in that lane. The car was forced off the roadway and into a ditch, where it overturned. The driver, 62-year-old Jeanette Zotz of Macomb, was trapped inside the vehicle before being freed by emergency services personnel.

Zotz was injured and was taken to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham, then was transferred to Carle Hospital in Urbana for additional treatment. The crash also halted travel on westbound I-70 and southbound I-57 for a time.
